How to remove featured image inside posts in WordPress
If you are just starting to use WordPress and are playing with different themes, you are likely to encounter an issue where you can see the featured image at the beginning of every post as well as on the homepage. Ideally, we would like the featured image to appear on the homepage or on our sidebar widget (recent posts, trending posts etc). If you disable the featured image from the post, it will remove the image from the homepage as well. In this post, you will learn how to prevent the featured image from showing inside your blog post pages and only appear in the homepage.
The option that will fix this issue, lies in the theme customization menu. Here are the steps to access the “customize” option in WordPress:
- First login to your WordPress dashboard
- From the left sidebar options, click “Appearance” >> “Customize”
3. Now, you will be redirected to your WordPress Theme’s customization options. In this example, I am using a free theme called “Royale News”. Next I will click “Theme Options”.
4. From “Theme Options” >> select “Post Single Options” (could be “Single Post Options” or similar on your theme)
5. Once inside the Single Post Options, you can disable the “display featured image” :
Now if you refresh your page, the featured image will disappear from the top of the page and you will only see it on your homepage or sidebar widgets.
Please note that the above example is for a particular theme and the customization options will differ for different themes. For other themes, the navigation maybe as following: Login to dashboard >> Go to “Appearance” >> Customize >> select “Blog” (or “content options”) >> “Single Post” >>Disable “Featured Image (my clicking on the eye icon next to the option or by the checkbox). In any case, your goal should be to find the “Single Post” option through “Customize” on the dashboard.
