In this post, I will show you how to install Microsoft Core Fonts or common fonts used in MS Word documents. Example of MS Word Doc fonts: Arial, times new roman, comic san, georgia, verdana and so on.

[Guide] Install Microsoft fonts in Linux OS (Kubuntu, Mint, Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Arch, Fedora, Garuda, Peppermint, Suse, Pop!_OS, OpenSUSE, CentOS, xfce and more)

  • Open console or terminal on linux
  • Type these commands one by one:
    • sudo apt-get remove –purge ttf-mscorefonts-installer
    • sudo apt-get install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
  • If you had, LibreOffice or any other word processor program opened, please close it and restart the program.

Now, when you open your word processor (document editor) program , you should see the full list of Microsoft fonts in Linux OS. If the fonts do not show up even after the package installation is completed, please repeat the steps. Sometimes, font files are not installed correctly and requires re-installing.
