If you are unable to use MP4-M4A-MOV-ALA file formats on your Audacity program for Windows or Mac, you need to install the FFmpeg library. Without this library you will get a advanced audio coding file error in Audacity when trying to import a MP4-M4A-MOV-ALA file. This error also occurs when you try to drag and drop the video file into Audacity window.

To fix this issue, please follow these steps:

  1. Close Audacity if it’s open
  2. Download and install latest version of Audacity from this link: Download Audacity
  3. Install latest ffmpeg library for Windows Or Mac from this link: Download ffmpeg for Windows or mac
    • Be careful to install “ffmpeg” library not LAME.
  4. Start Audacity
  5. Drag your video file to Audacity and it should now import without issue
