How to fix typing- keyboard lag in Google Chrome & Windows search
One day a weird issue with typing lag started on my Windows 10 laptop. When I typed something from my keyboard in the Windows search (after pressing the windows key), it would take a lot of time for the words to appear on the search box. I had the same problem in Google Chrome as well. When I typed the website address (google.com) on the URL field, the texts appeared as normal but when I would enter a search term on the Google search box, I would have to wait for the letters to appear (sometimes a long delay of up to 10 seconds ). Another example. I could get into youtube.com just fine, but the letters would only start showing on the search bar long after I had typed the whole sentence. I tried a different browser but the problem with “the typed words taking time to appear on the screen” was still not fixed.
This was really annoying so I decided to investigate and I found out that the actual issue was with some settings in Kaspersky AntiVirus program that I had installed in my PC. I found that the issue goes away when you disable the AntiVirus but its not reasonable to leave the PC totally unprotected so I only disabled the setting that was causing the issue. So if you are having this typing delay in search issue after recently installing/updating some antivirus or anti-malware program, you can try similar steps as below:
Possible Fix 1: Clearing Browser Cache
For some users clearing browser cache has worked. This option should be in your browser settings. For Google Chrome, click the three dotted icon >> More tools >> Clear browsing data >> You can choose to clear all data or just “cached images and files”. Note: all your saved login details (username/passwordds) will be wiped if you choose to clear all browsing data.
What worked for me – Changing Kaspersky security settings
Go to Kaspersky → Settings → Network Settings → Uncheck “Inject scripts into web traffic to interact with web pages”. Example image of the settings below:
